How to look at old posts without accidentally liking them

Look without liking infographic

It's very easy to like posts on Instagram, in fact, it might even be too easy. I'm sure this has happened to everyone at least once: you accidentally put a like on a photo so old that the person who uploaded it probably doesn't even remember posting it, and then you are left with only one option: quickly unlike the photo, close Instagram, close yourself in your room and never go outside ever again, all while hoping the person didn't notice. Ok, maybe you don't take it so dramatically, but if you follow this guide you can say goodbye to the inconvenience of liking something by mistake forever.

This solution won't prevent you from double-tapping someone's post, but it won't send the like, giving you the time to remove it and continue to scroll without any paranoia. All you need to do is:

  1. Go to the profile page you want to look at
  2. Turn off your internet connection: mobile data and Wi-Fi, or, if you prefer, turn on airplane mode
  3. Now you're good to go!

How does this work? Without internet access, Instagram won't be able to know you liked a post, just remember to unlike it.

Considerations

The pictures won't load if you visit the profile with your internet connection already turned off. You'll have to go to the profile first to load the posts, then turn off internet, and then start scrolling.

After a while posts won't load anymore, simply turn your internet connection back on, let the posts load, and then turn it off again.

How to turn on airplane mode

  • iPhone/iPad: swipe up from the bottom of the screen and click the airplane icon. Or, open "Settings", click on "Wi-Fi" and switch "Airplane Mode" on
  • Android: open the "Settings" app, fin "Airplane Mode" and turn it on. Or, if you have it, you can swipe down from the top of the screen and click the airplane icon
